Body Care Routine - Winter Edition November 2013

I always tell people that my favourite seasons are Autumn/Fall. I love wearing cozy sweaters and trendy coats, as well as fashionable boots! I get excited buying fall and winter fashion items.

The one thing that I'm NOT excited about is dry skin all over my body. If i just use normal foaming body washes (even in the summer), I swear that my skin becomes reptilian...all scaly...*sheds tears* its terrible.

This winter I became so frustrated with how itchy and dry my body was. My limbs were so parched that I felt they were being torn in two, so finally I put together a routine to take care of my issues. Today I'm going to talk about the products I use to control my super dry body skin. I am going to restrict it to just body care and do a separate post on winter hair care and winter skin care later on. Hope you enjoy this post!

  • In the shower I use:

    • With a loofah, I usually alternate between two body washes. The first one is Dove Shea Butter with Warm Vanilla Scent Body Wash because I can't resist anything with vanilla smell to it. Even though this smells sweet, it is not cloying or sickly and I really like the moisture this gives. Sometimes I also go for the Almond Cream with Hibiscus scent. I mean anything from this line works great but scent is a personal thing. This is a good drugstore body wash for dry skin. I usually buy multiples of this when it goes on sale at Shoppers Drug Mart. Watch out when they go on sale for C$2.99 (I think regular price is $7.99). Buy 10. =)

    • The second body wash I use is an oil. Yup, an oil. And its so pampering and luxurious. I'm talking about the L'Occitane Almond Shower Oil. This stuff is amazing on the skin. I use this two ways - just like a normal body wash since it lathers with a loofah and makes a nice gentle foam, and also as to replace my shaving cream for the legs. I'll be honest and say that this is not cheap but you only need a few drops for your entire body so it can last for a few months. Did I also mention the smell? This shower oil smells divine! Go get a sniff, there's a few locations downtown including The Bay near downtown Toronto Eaton Centre.

    • Once, sometimes twice, a week I will use a body scrub. The two that I alternate are Soap and Glory's Flake Away Body Scrub and L'Occitane Shea Ultra Rich Body Scrub. I think its very important to exfoliate the entire body because if there is a layer of dead skin cells and flakes, then it doesn't matter how much body cream you put on top. It just won't absorb as well. Plus you get the benefit of smooth and polished skin (I'm looking at you reptilian legs of mine). Just my two cents.

  • After shower I use:
    • I'm very fussy (read: OCD) with body butters/moisturizers/creams. I just can't bear that greasy feeling a slow-absorbing cream gives when it stays on for far too long before sinking in, Yuck. Then when you finally think its done absorbing you put on pants and boy oh boy its sticky. More Yuck. For this reason, for the longest time, I never really used one religiously. I relied on my moisturizing body washes. Big mistake. I am sure that as I grow older, my skin is also getting drier and I can no longer get away with not using any body creams after showering.

    • Currently I am loving the L'Occitane Ultra Rich Shea Butter Body Cream. This product is not kidding around. With 25% shea butter and non-greasy finish, I have finally found something that satisfies my fussy self. It also keeps the skin comfortable and moisturized for a long time. Right up to your next shower. I can't be bothered to reapply creams after leaving the bathroom. You know what I'm talking about? Those body butters that only work for an hour or so? Like what is up with that? Lol. Anyway, as I was saying, this body cream works so well. It has a very nice light scent that will not interfere with any perfumes you wish to use. The texture is also as thick as a 500 page book. Great analogy, Cari. Why thank you, I thought so too. *pats self on the back*

    • Moving on, I also like using a body gel from Nature Republic (a Korean brand). Its 92% aloe vera gel and upon application, its very cooling and soothing. Perfect for that itchy itchy patch of dry skin that just won't leave you in peace. If you can't quite bear to part with C$48 bucks for the L'Occitane body cream, then this would make you feel happy indeed. I bought mine at Pacific Mall last month and would happily pay the C$13 it cost me to buy this again. That is superb value for a huge tub of this aloe gel that can be used on your hair, face, and body. I featured this on a recent haul that you can check out here

So that's all for now guys. I hope you found this post helpful or at the very least entertaining :)

Talk to you again on my next post~

xoxo
