Treatment Oils

Left to Right: Josie Maran Argan Oil, Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Concentrate, Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair

My face used to be an oil-free and serum free zone. The idea of putting any kind of oil on my face was cringe worthy and all in all sounded too crazy to even contemplate. Since my skin tends to react easily to things that it doesn't agree with, I steered clear of any treatments for a long time.

Not so this year. I have found a new love for oils. The two pictured above are Josie Maran Argan Oil and Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Concentrate. Another oil that unfortunately did not make it in the above picture is the NUDE ProGenius Treatment Oil. It usually resides in my gym bag and I apply it after post-workout shower. More on this later. A guest appearance is made by the Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair seen above. It is not an oil, of course, but a treatment serum that I layer underneath my pick of oil for the night.

Mind you I do not use all of these at the same time. For those nights when I feel like treating myself with an extra skincare boost, I choose an oil to layer in my night time skincare. You can see my usual night time skin care post here. The revised order goes like this:

  • I double cleanse.
  • Then use a toner.
  • Spray facial mist.
  • Pat a serum on. Let that sink in and dry.
  • Here is where it differs. I put a few drops of oil on the palm of my hand. Rub palms together to warm the oil. Press my palms all over my face.
  • Continue on with moisturizer, only if I feel like I need it that night.
Josie Maran Argan Oil

For my skin, the argan oil can be a bit too rich. I use this sparingly on my face but it works wonders on other dry areas of the body as well. For this reason, I mainly use the argan oil on my dry hands, elbows, legs, wherever I feel dry really.
Kieh's Midnight Recovery Concentrate

Kieh's Midnight Recovery Concentrate gets busted out on nights when I feel really tired and need some help getting deep sleep. Because of the lavender oil that is included in this concentrate (among many other oils), the smell of this lulls me to a deeper and better sleep. It smells really nice and this oil is easily absorbed in my skin.

Lastly, the NUDE ProGenius Treatment Oil is my favorite of the bunch. At a whopping C$94 per bottle, this is certainly not cheap. In fact, just typing that in here gives me heart palpitations. I obtained a deluxe sample of this oil as a VIB perk while making an online Sephora purchase. After receiving it in December of last year, I started using it and it's still going strong. My wallet is going to cry when I repurchase this once my deluxe sample bottle runs out. Beauty comes with a price, I guess. The spiel at Sephora website says this:

NUDE ProGenius Treatment Oil
"This 100 percent pure and active treatment oil provides a precisely balanced diet of vital nutrients for luminous and healthy looking skin. The all-absorbing formula delivers deep and long lasting skin cell nourishment, revealing skin that appears lit from within. "

Well ladies and gents (we don't discriminate here at HC), I hereby proclaim that the above is true. I am not sure exactly how it works but my skin feels so healthy and looks lit from within after I use this. After a gym workout, the last thing I want to do is slap a lot of products/makeup on my face. Apart from just having an intense sweat session, I really want my skin to be able to breathe and do its thing. However, I also don't want to look like a dead person. This oil manages to brighten my face with that glow from within look and makes it feel moisturized at the same time. Total winner in my books.

So that's it folks. I hope I at least made some of you think of looking into using oils. And for the oil lovers that are out there, thank you for welcoming me in your community. Lol!
