A recent visit to a spa resulted in uneven eyebrows (how annoying, I never returned to the place) and prompted a mad search for an eyebrow product that would give me natural looking brows while I grow mine back. Below I am going to list the eyebrow products I use according to how I rank them, with my favourite product saved for last.
1. MAC eyebrow pencil in Spiked
I bought this based on the recommendation of a MAC sales associate who looked at my brows for 2 seconds, then automatically gave me this colour as my "match" for eyebrows. I have to say that was not a good idea. It was my mistake though. I just took her word for it and did not even swatch the pencil in store. I am torn with this eyebrow pencil. Some days I find that its hard texture and consistency is great, but on other days I find it too hard as it drags on my eyebrow skin/hairs. Is that a weird observation to make? I don't really know. The color too is a bit wrong. Its too reddish and makes it obvious that I have drawn eyebrows. Maybe next time Cari, you should check the actual product lol. Anyway, as I was too lazy to exchange/return this, it sits in my makeup drawers. I listed it here anyway, because perhaps if I had the better pencil colour match I would have liked it more.
2. MAC 266 small angle brush and MAC eyeshadow in Charcoal Brown (seen in first picture above)
Ahh well now, as much as I griped about the MAC eyebrow pencil, then I really liked this method of filling in my brows. Keyword is filling. This is not as long lasting of course since its using a powder product but it does have the benefit of looking a lot more natural on me. The angled brush is also very easy to use and fuss free. If you are new to the world of eyebrow products then this method is the one I would recommend for you. You definitely don't have to use MAC but these are a good place to start.
3. Hourglass Arch Brow Sculpting Pencil in Dark Brunette
Now we are finally ramping it up and stepping into prestige eyebrow products. At a heart-ache inducing $32 canadian dollars, this beaut's price is no joke. Oh but man, it surely is a beauty to use. I really dig pencils that has a brush attached on the other end to groom the brows in place before and after applying the product. Very convenient. I picked one up in the colour Dark Brunette at Sephora, but to be honest, I swatched the Soft Brunette in store in a consequent visit and that works too. I had to stop myself from getting the other colour though, because well we already talked about the price.
4. Anastasia Brow Wiz in Medium Ash
I found it. My holy grail eyebrow pencil. Best pencil ever. I chose this as my favourite because of how natural it looks on me. As previously mentioned in the intro to this post, that spa visit turned eyebrow disaster - yes over-dramatic i know - left me feeling a little erratic and desperate to get my brows to at least look even. This baby did the trick. The very small fine tip lends itself to drawing incredibly natural looking brows. Obviously, less is more as with anything in makeup so a light hand is ideal. The brush attached to the other end of the pencil is just the right size, shape and firmness too. A definite repurchase in the future.
So that is all my friends. I hope none of you are having any eyebrow emergencies. But if you do check out some of my faves. Bye!
